The Band Perry

FROM THE ARCHIVES: LIFE+DOG editor-in-chief Ryan Rice had the opportunity to sit down with country music’s newest sensation, The Band Perry. They’ve teamed up with Purina® Dog Chow® to bring awareness to the plight of homeless animals all around our country. Read on to hear what they had to say to Ryan.

The Band Perry have been blowing up the airwaves recently and performing everywhere from The Ellen Degeneres Show and Jay Leno to crowd-filled arenas and the glitzy stages of awards shows nationwide.  I became a fan when I heard, and subsequently became addicted to, their unique blend of harmony, mixed with great songwriting and top notch vocals.  Their hit “If I Die Young” has climbed the charts, garnered them their first Grammy nomination for Country Song of the Year and is the type of song you will notice yourself accidentally singing out loud in the checkout line at the grocery store.   Brothers Neil and Reid along with lead-singing sister Kimberly are more than just Country’s newest sensation, they are also passionate animal lovers and pack leaders to their pups.  It’s their love of all things animal that led them to join forces withPurina® to make a difference in their community and beyond through thePurina® Double Dog Dare Contest. Purina® Dog Chow® is currently daring dog owners to try its better tasting than ever dog food formula risk-free. In return, consumers now have the chance to out-do them with a double dog dare of their own.

One of my favorite things about having the chance to chat with cause-conscious celebs is when they are not only friendly and gracious, but when you chat like old friends…even when its a short chat so they can get back on set to film their latest music video for their latest release, You Lie. In interest of time we got to chatting about the campaign and their love of dogs!

LIFE+DOG:

You all just signed on to join Purina® Double Dog Dare Contest, where you are encouraging animal lovers to double dare Purina® to make a difference in their community.  What made you want to join this campaign?

TBP:

People often ask if there are others siblings in the family…and we always say “yes…our dogs!”  Because of our love for our dogs, we are passionate about getting the word out about healthier dog food while drawing attention to the larger need of animals throughout our community and beyond.  We hope to get consumers involved in helping build stronger animal communities by joining us in this challenge!  From now until Monday, Feb. 28, we are encouraging dog lovers to visit www.daredogchow.com and submit a dare of their choice.  It could be anything from building the ultimate dog house to refurbishing a neighborhood animal shelter to organizing a dog walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. If you ever thought, ‘I wish Dog Chow would….’ here’s your opportunity!

Purina® Dog Chow® Brand Dog Food will execute three dares – one per month in March, April and May – while awarding each of the three Grand Prize Winners $5,000 and a year’s supply of Purina® Dog Chow® Brand Dog Food, as well as a two year’s supply of Purina® Dog Chow® Brand Dog Food for one dog donated to a local animal shelter in each of the Grand Prize Winners’ communities. Everyone go to www.daredogchow.com now to submit your dare and to help animals in need!

LIFE+DOG:

What would you “dare” Purina® to do to make a difference in the animal community?

TBP:

We live in East Tennessee and we are daring them to donate to our local dog shelter here.  This is such a great opportunity to help local organizations in need of resources, making life a little easier for the animals that are staying at shelters.

The-Band-Perry-02LIFE+DOG:

Tell us about your dogs!

TBP:

Between the three of us, and our family we have 2 Great Pyrenees and 2 Pembroke Welsh Corgis.  They all love to wrestle and play…we spend so much time watching and laughing.  The Corgis are named after characters in our favorite film, Paper Moon. Moses is 2 years-old and Addie is 3.  The Pyrenees, Dakota and Scout are 5 year-old brothers. They bring so much joy into our lives!

LIFE+DOG:

How long have you three been dog lovers?

TBP:

I can’t remember when we didn’t have a dog.  Our first was a Basset Hound named Abigail who used to walk on her ears.

LIFE+DOG:

What’s your favorite thing to do with your dogs?

TBP:

When we are home we love to watch the Corgis wrestle.  We tried to train them and have really only gotten as far as sitting, but we are happy with that.  Our Pyrenees love to go swimming in the creek on our property.  They are white so they never stay clean.  They love rolling around in the dirt.

LIFE+DOG:

How have your dogs influenced your lives and careers?

TBP:

We are traveling constantly!  When we are on the road coming home to something normal is really therapeutic!   Coming home to our loving dogs is the one thing that never changes.  They are always happy to see us!

LIFE+DOG:

Do you ever take your dogs on the road with you?

TBP:

Unfortunately its hard to be on the road with the dogs.  Pyrenees are too big to take everywhere. They joined us at the photo shoot for this campaign and enjoyed it, but they are large so its challenging.  They all stay back home in Tennessee with our father, who would definitely miss them too much if they were on the road.  He makes sure they get all the attention and love they need.  With our travel schedule it would be hard to focus the appropriate amount of attention on them.  We hope to get a small dog someday that will be able to hit the road with us.

LIFE+DOG:

What artists or bands do you listen to?

TBP:

Amos Lee, who recently performed on The Ellen Show at the same time as we did is a big favorite right now. We are also huge fans of Loretta Lynn and theRolling Stones. We call our sound a modern throwback, mixing the tradition of country with modern influences.  We love the contradiction of different genres and how they can combine to make something really unique.

LIFE+DOG:

You all are slated to tour with Tim McGraw this year, when does the tour start and how can everyone find out how they can see you in their city?

TBP:

Yes, we are very excited!  The tour starts this April and will go through August.  Check out our website at www.thebandperry.com or follow us on Facebook to find out when we are coming to the town closest to you!
